SPECIFICATIONS

GEM provides computers, books and other instruments of learning to schools and other community based organizations in developing countries. To this end, we are constantly accepting donations of these types of resources from within the United States. Because these resources must have reasonable life-spans and adequate processing power (after donation) to justify the cost of delivery to students, GEM's IT department has devised the following specifications that donations must meet in order to be accepted by GEM.

Books

All Books (except Information & Communication Technology Books)

Books must be in good condition. By this, we mean the following:

  • Pages should not be stuck together.
  • Books should have no moisture damage.
  • Books should have spines that are intact.
  • Pages should be clean without "dog ears".
  • Publication Dates should not be earlier than 1980.

  • Information & Communication Technology Books

These books must meet the above specifications, except for the publication dates. Publication dates for such books before 1990 are impractical. Therefore, we respectfully request that such books not be included in donations to GEM as they would not be usable with respect to today's hardware and software.
